September 29th, 2010

Hey guys and gals! Shannon here, it’s been a super busy time at Aqui Estamos Records. Very exciting indeed! There are so many wonderful things happening and about to happen in the near future. I will give you a quick run down starting…. now!

Cashes Rivers CD release party is Oct 16th @Vaudeville Mews with a release date of Oct 26th. Pre-sales will be starting any day now. I’m in the middle of booking both Cashes and Canby’s tours, stay tuned for that info for all you non Iowan music fans out there. I am looking at a few other bands to add to my mix..maybe even open a shop in either Raleigh or Des Moines. I’m interviewing for fellow do-gooders to come on board the label as I am down a man. As you can see busy busy… but in a good way.

I can’t believe this lil label I started a year and a half ago to help my brother get his music heard is becoming the real deal. Words can’t express how much your support has meant to me and the bands on this journey. Thank you so much. If you know me personally or heck even just met me briefly, you know I am giving ya’ll hugs in my mind right now :0)

However, I want to personally apologize for the lack of updates on this site, the delay in newsletters and the music player being well…not filled with awesome tunes for your listening pleasure. In the mean time, please head over to the Aqui Estamos Records, Cashes Rivers and Canby myspace pages for music. Please become a Face Book fan of all three while you are at it. I update Face Book all the time… it’s just so easy and I might have a slight addiction to it..just saying.

I hope to see you at a show soon. I just booked my ticket to Des Moines for the Cashes Rivers cd release show Oct 13th. Be sure to say Hi, I love meeting new people and making friends.

Until next time,

~Shannon

Don’t take our word for it….

Cashes Rivers’ self-titled debut album releases Oct 26th. Get a free download of “As I Drift” at

http://one-track-mind.com/cashes-rivers-as-i-drift/

Here is what One Track Mind thinks of “As I Drift” give it a listen and vote for yourself.

“We can talk about it or we can shout about it,” sings vocalist Matthew Garcia of Des Moines’ Cashes Rivers. He proceeds to do both on “As I Drift,” a winning exercise in bipolar tunefulness that starts out sounding like a delicate Sufjan Stevens folk number before exploding into epic guitar noise (complete with a brass and string section) and ending with a jangly coda accompanied by discordant feedback squalls in the background.

Garcia’s vocals are the constant through the whole journey, starring in the folksy opening and providing a human anchor in the noisy chaos the song becomes. He draws obvious inspiration from the aforementioned Stevens, along with Conor Oberst, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The Flaming Lips, sharing their ability to blend the intimate with the epic with effortless ease. Fortunately, though, he knows the difference between inspiration and imitation and while it’s easy to hear echoes of other bands on “As I Drift,” it’s not easy to come up with an example of anyone Cashes Rivers sounds exactly like.

Cashes Rivers is the result of Garcia’s vision and it’s a pretty impressive accomplishment for a nineteen-year-old newlywed. Des Moines’ previous claim to musical fame was the nightmarish metal lunacy of Slipknot. Cashes Rivers stands a good chance of providing the extraordinarily nice people of Iowa a musical act that might be a little more representative of themselves – friendly, unpretentious, and hardworking, and more than happy to get by on talent instead of shock and gimmicks.

Look for “As I Drift” on Cashes Rivers’ self-titled debut full length, being released October 26th by Aqui Estamos Records.”

What are you doing Oct 16th?

Vote to REFRESH Des Moines’ Music Scene

August 9th, 2010

The fine people at PEPSI are giving away $1.3 Million of grant money to people, businesses, and non-profits with ideas that will have a positive impact. The Des Moines Music Coalition submitted 80/35 and it was accepted! So now it is up to us to VOTE. Here is the project overview so you can be fully informed.

Project Overview:

80/35 is an annual music festival produced by the non-profit Greater Des Moines Music Coalition and coordinated by over 350 local volunteers. Occurring on the 4th of July weekend, the event brings the best local, regional, and national progressive artists together for one weekend of top-rated entertainment. In addition to the paid festival stage, the event features a large free area featuring local and regional bands, a family and children’s area including a children’s music stage and interactive activities, a green living zone highlighting eco-friendly initiatives, and an area to showcase non-profit organizations and community services. 80/35 also highlights other artistic endeavors including a world renowned sculpture park, live theater and performing art, and an installation by local visual artists. In its third year, 80/35 has become “the” summer event for Midwestern music lovers.

This year I was able to volunteer, which was a ton of fun! Canby and Cashes Rivers were selected to play the KUM & GO stage and friends/family were able to enjoy the free stages, great local, regional and national acts. What I love the most was the organization of this festival…free water bottles and cold water for all! I am so glad to have this festival in my hometown. Please take a few moments to vote for this GREAT IDEA. Let’s keep 80/35 going strong!

DMMC Commercial

July 21st, 2010

The Des Moines Music Coalition has done SO much for the music scene in the last few years. I am personally very thankful for what they have done not only for local music but for bringing national acts in as well via 80/35 and other festivals. So it was with great honor that Cashes Rivers and Aqui Estamos Records accepted the offer to help out with their commercial. If you are not a member JOIN! It is well worth the $25 bucks. Help continue to grow DSM music scene, its a WIN – WIN for everyone!
